We know that Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is chosen to be the top man for Attorney General, but we have just found out that President-Elect Donald Trump has decided to make Kansas Republican Congressman Mike Pompeo the CIA Director.
A brief relevant history on Pompeo: he has been in Congress for 3 terms and he is a part of the House Intelligence Committee. He become visible on the important political map for his participation in the congressional investigation into the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, and was a determined and loud investigator to defy then-Secretary of State.
From The New York Times:
If confirmed by the Senate, Mr. Pompeo would take control of a spy agency that has been remade in the years since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, with a relentless focus on manhunts, counterterrorism and targeted killing operations. Over the past year, the C.I.A. has undergone a bureaucratic reorganization under its director, John O. Brennan, an effort Mr. Pompeo would decide whether he wants to continue.
Here’s a statement, via Breitbart, from President-elect Trump on his selection of Pompeo for CIA Director and the Kansas Republican’s response:
“I am proud to nominate Congressman Mike Pompeo as Director of the Central Intelligence Agency,” said President-elect Trump. “He has served our country with honor and spent his life fighting for the security of our citizens. Mike graduated number one in his class at West Point and is a graduate of Harvard Law School where he served as an editor of the Harvard Law Review. He will be a brilliant and unrelenting leader for our intelligence community to ensure the safety of Americans and our allies.”
“I am honored to have been given this opportunity to serve and to work alongside President-elect Donald J. Trump to keep America safe. I also look forward to working with America’s intelligence warriors, who do so much to protect Americans each and every day,” said Congressman Pompeo.
